First day I got off the ship and I was actually cold. The cold was refreshing in comparison to the heat we've been experiencing closer to the equator. It was completely different from Ghana. We walked to the V&A waterfront, which is modeled after another waterfront in some other country that was originally controlled by the British. SO NICE. They had a huge shopping mall with a grocery store in it. It felt like Europe mixed with a mall in America. After we shopped a bit, we went to a restaurant in the marina and had fish and chips. The whole day we walked around the mall and surrounding area and enjoyed not being hassled by every single person walking by. That night, we went to Long Street and went to a restaurant called Mama Africa. I had a 'wild game' sampler which included crocodile, impala (venison), ostrich, and warthog. This was the first step into me getting out of my box in South Africa. I ordered a mojito and a bottle of Chenin Blanc. After dinner, we walked around Long Street trying to find where everyone was from Semester at Sea. It was a boring night because everyone was scattered around and people didn't really know where to go. There were a lot of locals, but not like the ones I would've expected to see. We got a taxi around 1:30 and went back to the ship.
